リンバーバーからの英国だより『５月、近況報告』

このブログはOurWayでの日々の出来事を一部でも皆さんにお伝えするニュースレターのようなものです。過去１４年間、月曜日のクラスは我々のドッグハウスからちょっと離れたビレッジホールで行っていました。最近ドッグハウスの施設を拡大したのでここでやれるようになりました。クライアントの皆さんがお祝いして下さり、特にある女性は手作りケーキまで用意してくれました。（左の写真）
広くなったドッグハウスでこれからはもっと色々なことができます。近日中にラリーを始めようと思っています。ラリーとは服従訓練とアジリティーを組み合わせたような種目です。犬とオーナーは指定のコースを通りながら12個のエクササイズをやります。次回は写真をお見せしようと思います。
月曜と水曜のアジリティークラスは順調です。ここイギリスでアジリティーをやっている方は競技に出る事よりも楽しむ事を目的にしている人が多いです。しかもイギリスは雨がとても多いので、なかなか思うように練習できないですから。幸運なことに私たちのクラスは３月から一度も雨でキャンセルすることなくクラスを出来ています。Kennel Club Good Citizen Awardに向けて皆さん頑張っています。
Our Way Dog Trainingに参加中の皆さんも頑張っています。右の写真のプードル２匹、ホリーとデイジーはレベル４を終了し、これからレベル５に挑戦します。
私自身はというと、ダルシアとガンドッグテストに参加しました。私たちは土曜日に早起きして100km以上はなれた会場まで出かけました。彼女はスパニエルなので、ハンティングとレトリービング両方の実演をしました。左の写真にあるようになかなか厳しい環境でしたが、彼女は見事にこなして賞状をもらいました。とても暑い日だったので犬にとっては過酷でした。ハァハァと喘いでしまうので、普段より嗅覚を研ぎすますのが難しいのです。お水をたくさん与え、木陰でしっかりクールダウンさせて乗り切ることが出来ました。
皆さんも、これから夏ですからワンちゃんが熱中症にならないようにケアして上げて下さいね。それでは、また。
This Blog is more like a ‘newsletter’ so that you know what we are doing at Ourway. The Monday class has for the last fourteen years met in a village hall some distance away from The Dog House however as we had extended our facilities here it was more economical to carry out the training here. The clients wanted to celebrate and one lady is particular good at making cakes as you can see from the photograph. We can do so many more activities at the Dog House and I will soon start teaching Rally. Rally has been described as a cross between Obedience and Agility. It is where a dog and owner have to navigate a course where there are about twelve different points where they have to carry out an exercise. I will send you photographs soon. The Agility season is going well with classes on a Monday evening and Wednesday evening. There is a lot of interest in England for agility but owners want it to be ‘fun’ and do not want to enter competitions. As you know in England we can have a lot of rain which means it can be difficult to continue with the agility classes but so far since March we have not had to cancel any classes. At the moment we are working toward the Kennel Club Good Citizen Award, with owners concentrating on the bronze and silver awards.
The dogs and owners have been busy completing Ourway Dog Training levels and the two poodles in the photograph, Holly on the right and Daisy have both completed Level 4 and now will starting working on their Level 5.
One of my own dogs, Dulcia, entered a Gun Dog Test. We had to travel over 100 kilo metres to the venue on Saturday so it was a early morning start. As she is a spaniel she has to demonstrate her hunting skills and also retrieving. As you can see from the ground behind her the ground was quite challenging, but she done extremely well and received a Certificate of Merit. It was an extremely hot day which can make it difficult for the dogs as they are inclined to ‘pant’ and not use their nose. I had to make sure that she had plenty of water to drink and keep her cool which was not too difficult in the woods.
