今回は、前回のリン先生のブログで出席予定と仰っていたカンファレンスについての話です。

カンファレンスはとても素晴らしかったです、そして私は犬の脳の働きを理解しようという情熱に溢れていました。
私達はEMRA(問題行動の査定方法）と ESTA(問題行動の治療方法）について学び、討論しました。
これらのメソッドは私がずっと使用していたものです。
でも、人間のみならず動物の脳の働きについての発見は常に更新されるものです。
ですから行動学者やトレーナーは常にそのような進歩に対応するのはとても重要なことです。
私は犬の問題行動をチェックするとき、犬がどんな感情でいつ起こすのかを調べるだけでなく、普段の生活ではどのようなのかも調べます。
犬の飼い主は問題行動をやめさせようと様々な試みを行いますが、問題行動は一向に消えない、私には飼い主の行うそれらの方法がかえって問題行動を強化しているように思えるのです。
むしろ、例えば遊んであげたりグルーミングしてあげたりという愛犬へのケアーが足りていないのではないでしょうか、そしてワンちゃん達の狩猟、追跡、穴掘りなどの自然な本能を満足させてあげていないようにも思うのです。
週末を討論したり学んだりして、なんと天蓋付きのベッドまであるような素晴らしいところで過ごしました。
私は行動学とトレーニング、その両方を行う私の仕事を本当に楽しんでいます。
あなたがきっと興味を持ってくださると思い、私の行動学の仕事の断片をお話ししました。
明日私達はアジリティーのワークショップを行います、そして月曜からはアジリティーのクラスで大忙しです。

The Conference was extremely good and added to my passion of understanding how the dog’s brain works.
We learnt and discussed the EMRA (Emotional, Mood and Reinforcement Assessment) approach to the assessment of behaviour problems and ESTA (Emotional Systems Therapeutic Application) in the treatment of behaviour problems. This is a method I have been using for a period of time. However new discoveries are always being made of not how the human brain works but also that of an animal so it is important that as a behaviourist and trainer I continue to keep up to date.
When looking at a behaviour problem I make an assessment of not only how the dog feels and the time he is carrying out the behaviour but also their mood state generally in their daily lives. I also look at the reinforcements, external and internal which are maintaining the behaviour problem even though the owner has made varied attempts to get rid of them.
Quite often in the dog’s daily routine there is insufficient care of the dog such as playing and grooming them and allowing them to fulfil their natural instincts such as hunting, chasing, digging etc.
It was a beautiful place to spend the weekend discussing and studying and I was very lucky to sleep in an old fashioned four poster bed!!
I really enjoy my work, both the behaviour and the training aspect of it. I will send you snippets of some of my behaviour work as I am sure you will find it interesting.
Tomorrow we are holding a workshop for agility and then from Monday onwards we are busy busy with agility classes.

太陽の光が差し込む私のオフィスでこのブログを書いています。
春は木々の葉に宿り、鳥に巣作りをさせます。春の訪れのしるしはまだあります。
クラフト展です。このショーはとても素晴らしく、今や国際なものとなりました。
さて、ここドッグハウスでは、アジリティーの準備を始めています。
春はアジリティーの道具を修理したり塗り直したりする季節です。
私は最近121ものセッションを抱えているのでとても忙しいのです。
そのセッションの中でも ” 呼び戻し ” はよくある問題でしょう。
私としては、呼び戻しは、飼い主とその犬の絆の問題だと思うので、ごく簡単なトレーニングにより犬は戻って来るはずなのですが
皆なかなか出来ないようなので、今までの指導法を変えることにしました。
そこで” 飼い主と犬の絆を増すためのゲーム “を飼い主さん達に教える事にしたのです。
このゲームはまず飼い主さんに、犬にとっては特に魅力的でもないご褒美を遠くへ投げてもらいます。
その後飼い主さんには、逆にとても魅力的なご褒美を持って犬の名を呼んでもらいます。
犬の名を呼んで、犬が飼い主の方を見たらご褒美です。
これが、今までとは別の” ご褒美ワンプラス作戦 ” です。
今週末、私はこの新しいメソッドが上手くいくかを確認する為に服従訓練のカンファレンスに出席します。

腕の骨折で休養の日々が続いていたリン先生ですが、ようやく回復され仕事に邁進しているご様子、私も嬉しいです。

As I write this Blog the sun is streaming into my office window. Spring is on its way with trees coming into leaf and birds are making their nests. Another sign that Spring is around the corner is of course Crufts. It is so good that this has now become such an International Show.
Here at the Dog House we are preparing for the Agility Season with the equipment being repaired and painted. I have been busy with 121 sessions recently and a particular common problem is the recall. I have changed the way I train recall as I now think it is about the relationship between owner and dog and not just a simple exercise in training your dog to come back to you. To increase the relationship between owner and dog I teach games for the owners to do outside with their dog such as throwing a low reward out, the dog watching of course, call the dog and reward with a much higher reward. Calling the dog’s name and reward when the dog looks at the owner is another one plus food rolling.
This weekend I am attending a Behaviour Conference to ensure that I am keeping up with modern methods. I will give you an update when I write to you again.

アジリティーの訓練は順調に進んでいて、ビギナーの犬達も障害物に慣れてきました。
今年はアジリティーが大人気でアワウェイではクラスを増設している程です。
イギリスの天候は不安定ですが、今のところ雨でキャンセルが１回、暑すぎて（観測史上最高気温！）できないという日が１日あっただけで済みました。あるクラスでは全員がビズラです。この犬種は大好きなのですが、ある程度訓練が入るまで難しいところがあり飼主さん達には特にサポートが必要になる場合があります。
写真に写っているのはサフィー、ティガー、フィンとキマです。
フィンとキマは飼主さんの手にマウントする問題があります。これはビズラによく見られる行動で、コースを走る中での興奮からくるものです。
飼主さんには各障害物の名前とやり方を教えることに集中し、手以外のボディーランゲージを使って犬に指示を出すように教えています。
今ではこの子達みんな上手にコースを回れるようになってきました。
もうひとつの写真は練習コースの一部です。犬が前進したくなるように工夫して組み合わせてあります。トンネルが好きな子は特に。
左右のターン練習にも左ジャンプターン、そして右へターンしてトンネルになっています。このターンは重要で、飼主の体の方向転換と犬の飼主への集中力の練習になります。
The agility season is going well with most of the beginners are now competent in using the equipment. Agility has been even more popular this year and Ourway Dog Training has had to organise more classes. The weather in England can be so unpredictable and so far we have had to cancel one evening of classes because of the rain and we nearly had to cancel one evening because it was extremely hot, in fact the hottest day ever recorded in England. In one class all the dogs are Vizilas. I love training this breed as at the beginning they can be quite challenging and some owners need additional support to the dog has matured. In the photograph is Saffy, Tigger, Finn and Kima. Finn and Kima had the known Vizila problem of mouthing the owner’s hand as they went round the agility course. The excitement of the course would increase this behaviour. We overcame the problem by teaching the owners to concentrate on teaching the dog the name of each piece of equipment and using other body language to give directions to the dog. These dogs now absolutely flow round the agility course and it is a pleasure to watch.
The photograph on the right is part of one of the courses we have used this year. This course teaches the dog to go forward particularly if they love the tunnel. The forward movement also makes them use full use of their bodies. To practice right and left turns we have included a left had turn jump and the flat tunnel on the right. Adding these turns in ensures the owner learns how to turn their body properly and for the dog’s to fully focus on their owners.
