この２週間私たちのクラスでは、貧しい子供達への募金集めのイベントでとても忙しかったです。
アワーウェイでは１年おきにこの様なチャリティーイベントを行い、クラスの皆様に募金をしていただいております。
今年のイベントは犬達に１メーター離れたところから指示を出し３０秒スピンし続けるというトリックを教えることにしました。
犬達はこのトリックが大好きで、指示をすぐに理解しました。
すでに２００ポンドの募金が集まりました。でも、もっと集めることが出来るでしょう。
前にブログでお話ししたことのあるデュークも写真でお分かりのようにとても上手に出来ました。
デュークは今シーズン、スカリーを始めた頃に比べてキジのフィギュアを取って来るのもとても上手くなりました。
The last two weeks in classes have been extremely busy raising money for Children In Need. Every other year Ourway Dog Training raises money for this charity. This year we decided that we would teach our dogs to ‘spin’ for thirty seconds a meter away from us. Dogs absolutely love this trick and quite quickly understand the cues. So far we have raised over two hundred pounds with more money yet to be handed in. Even Duke was successful as you can see from the picture. He is progressing really well at ‘picking up’ the pheasants this season which is his first.

ココポップスはテリアのミックス犬です。
何にでも吠えてしまうということで、オーナーの依頼でお宅を訪問しました。
獣医さんでも、トリミングサロンでも、外を歩いている時でも吠えてしまうのだそうです。
ココポップスは3ヶ月でオーナーの所に来ました。
それまでは、これと言って知識を吸収することも無く他の犬達と過ごしていました。
その後も基本的に、社会性を身に付けずに育ってしまいました。
オーナーは郊外に住んでいて、ココポップスは色々なものを見る機会もなかったのです。
吠えを治すためにオーナーは彼女と一緒に努力するつもりでいます。
ココポップスの社会性を身に付ける為には、近隣の町にでも連れて行く事が必要です。
クラスでのトレーニングで、ココポップスがストレスを感じ過ぎないか、夜うまく過ごせるかなど心配でした。
でもオーナーが私の指示どうり、ご褒美やオモチャを持ってきてくれたのでココポップスは余りストレスを感じなかった様です。
すぐに他の子犬達とエクササイズをこなしたり、トンネルくぐりも楽しんで行っていました。
私はいつも詰め物をしたコングを用意しています。
それは、若犬達が吠え始めた時に気を紛らわせる為に使います。
Coco Pops is mixed terrier. I was asked to do a personal visit to the home of the owner as Coco Pops barked at literally everything, going to the vets, the groomers and whilst out walking. The owners bought Coco Pops when she was three months old and during that time the only experiences she had was with living with other dogs in the breeder’s home. Basically she had no socialisation and had missed the ‘window of opportunity’ when puppies absorb everything going on around them. The new owners live out in the countryside so Coco Pops does not see many different things. The owners are really willing to work with her, and travel to the nearest town to extend her socialisation. I was concerned how she would cope with her first evening at classes and whether it would be too stressful for her. Luckily the owners followed instructions and came prepared with rewards and toys. I always have a stuffed Kong ready to give a young dog to distract them if they start barking. Coco Pops didn’t get too stressed and soon was doing the same exercises as the other puppies and really enjoyed going through the tunnel.

9月は木々の葉が黄金色から深い赤に変わり、生垣にはベリーが実っています。
夏休みも終わり、子供達は学校へ戻っていきました。
9月には、新しくレッスンをスタートをする子犬達が増えます。
この時期は子犬を飼い始めるのに良いと思うのでしょうか。
今年は特に子犬の数が多かったので、クラスを2つにしました。
クラスにより異なる子犬達の様子の違いを見るのは面白いものです。
片方のクラスのほうがもう一方のクラスより明らかに進んでいます。
その違いは、進んでいるほうが、少し早く生まれたからでしょう。
皆さんと一緒に、この２つのグループの進歩の様子を見て行きましょう。
デュークの犬種はボーセロンです。
もともとはフランス原産で、とても大きくなり、牡は体高71㎝ 、体重45キロにもなります。
デュークは現在 12ヶ月で、この夏は大変に忙しい日々をすごしました。
アワーウェイのカリキュラムを勉強して、すぐ次の週にはケンネルクラブのシチズンシップの銅メダルを獲得しました。
彼はとても有能で、アジリティーもこなしハンティングとガンドッグのゲームもこなします。また、私達が湖でクラスを行うと水の中から上手に獲物を探してきます。
これから狩りのシーズンも始まります。
デュークがこれらのレッスンをどうこなし成犬になっていくのか、皆さんで見守っていきましょう。
September is a beautiful month with the trees just beginning to change colour to tones of golden yellow and deep red and the hedgerow full of berries. The summer holidays are over and the children are back at school. Quite often in September I will see an increase in the number of puppies attending classes as many people feel this is an ideal time to have a new puppy. This year due to a high number of puppies I have had to start a second class. It is quite interesting to see the difference in the puppies and one group are certainly more advance then the others, due mainly to the puppies being slightly older. I thought it would be interesting to share the progress of two dogs. Duke is a Beauceron. The breed is originally from France and they are extremely large dogs with the males standing 71 cms high and weighing 45 kg. Duke is now twelve months old and has had a busy summer with qualifying for Crufts, and then the following week he gained his Kennel Club Good Citizen Bronze Award with Ourway Dog Training. He is a very versatile dog and can manage an agility course as well as going hunting and retrieving game. He is absolutely brilliant at retrieving from water when we are holding classes at the lakes. Over the next few months we will see how he copes with his first shooting season and becoming an adult dog.
